Some programs, such as Apple's iDVD, restrict the resolution of photo slide shows to the maximum resolution of a conventional DVD player. HDTVs from manufacturers such as Panasonic and LG have card readers and USB ports built in that will display pictures at the full resolution of your set. Your best bet may be to plug your camera right into your television. You could save your images in their original resolution as data files on your DVD, but not all DVD players can read those data files, and fewer still have outputs that are high-resolution enough to take advantage of the number of pixels on your HDTV. Your computer, on the other hand, is displaying the JPEG or TIFF data files at the resolution you took them on a screen that is equivalent to or better than your HDTV. Many programs, such as Windows XP's Movie Maker and Macintosh iPhoto/iDVD, burn photos to DVDs as slide shows that are inherently restricted to the resolution of the DVD.
